I’ve been a personal trainer in London for over 20 years, covering Mayfair, Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Belgravia, as well as other parts of central London. In that time I’ve helped clients lose excess body fat, build muscle, reduce the toxins they consume, increase the antioxidants they consume, reduce their stress levels and improve the quality of their sleep. All these things reduce your risk of getting cancer.
Smoking
Toxins can trigger DNA damage and cause cancer cells to grow. One the the worst toxins you can consume is cigarette smoke, the leading cause of lung cancer. I’ve helped several clients quit smoking, and it’s gratifying to see their quality of life improve in so many ways.
Alcohol Consumption
Alcohol is another toxin which contributes to an increased risk of several types of cancer. Drinking more than 3 units of alcohol a day increases your risk of stomach and pancreatic cancer, and has also been linked with an increased risk of prostate cancer. For more information on prostate cancer, see the excellent YouTube video, “Prostate Cancer: Diet and Exercise” produced by University of California Television.
Junk Food
Cutting junk food out of your diet will reduce your risk of cancer, as junk food contains carcinogenic toxins which are harmful to your health. In addition, if you consume junk food on a regular basis, this can lead to a build-up of visceral fat around your organs, which releases toxic chemicals into the bloodstream. These toxins can damage your DNA and trigger the growth of cancer cells, which turn into malignant tumours. All my personal training clients get nutrition advice and support between sessions at no extra cost.
Antioxidants
If you increase your consumption of foods containing antioxidants, this will boost your health, strengthen your immune system, and reduce your cancer risk. Antioxidants scavenge harmful free radicals in the body, reducing the damage they do to the cells of your body. Foods high in antioxidants include citrus fruits, blueberries, mango and strawberries. Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidant micronutrients.
Stress Levels
Chronic high levels of stress weakens your immune system and makes you more vulnerable to cancer. Many of my clients have high stress jobs in London, such as solicitors, barristers, company directors and equity traders. I help my clients reduce their stress levels through exercise (cardio-boxing is a particularly effective stress-buster) which in turn helps them sleep better.
Sleep Quality
Poor sleep can cause many health problems, including cancer, heart disease and metabolic diseases. Your body repairs itself during sleep, particularly deep sleep. Many busy professionals in London are chronically sleep-deprived, and this becomes a vicious spiral if they drink alcohol or consume excessive levels of caffeine to stay alert. I help my clients address the causes of their poor sleep, in order to improve sleep quality with all the benefits that come with this.
