Another scorching day of personal training in north London, and an equally scorching day for the players at the Wimbledon tennis championships. Will they close the roof if it gets too hot?
Petra Kvitova
The defending champion beat Kiki Bertens in straight sets, outclassing Kiki with a crushing 6-1, 6-0 victory. Kvitova arguably has the best serve in the women’s game, and is surely a strong contender for the Wimbledon crown. But Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova are also tipped to win the title this year.
Andy Murray
Andy is through to the second round, after beating Mikhail Kukushkin, a tough opponent.
James Ward
The British number 4 beat Luca Vanni in 4 sets. Vanni was the beneficiary of David Ferrer’s injury withdrawal from Wimbledon. Ward made some spectacular shots, including one drop-shot which left Vanni stranded behind the baseline.
