Swiss Wellness Retreat: Ultima Gstaad

Switzerland is famous for its wellness retreats and clinics, and Ultima Gstaad is one of the most exclusive, nestled in the Alpine village of Gstaad.

From Geneva’s Cointrin International Airport, Gstaad is around 2 hours 30 minutes by road, or a much faster 1 hour 40 minutes by train. Gstaad is located in south-west Switzerland, in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps, in the Canton of Bern. Mostly German-speaking, Gstaad has a population of around 9,300. The village attracts film stars, sports stars and billionaires who value its privacy and seclusion.

Ultima Gstaad is a 5 star boutique hotel with 11 spacious chalet suites and 6 private residences, all with balconies overlooking the Swiss Alps. The decor is wood, leather, marble, with art on the walls, fresh flowers everywhere and the latest in modern technology.

Aesthetic Clinic

Here you can take advantage of a range of detoxes, health-checks, DNA tests, facials (with the latest skin-toning technology and serums), manicures and pedicures.

Ultima Spa

As you would expect from a Swiss mountain retreat, the spa is spectacular. You can work out in the gym with one of the personal trainers, swim in the 15 metre indoor pool, indulge in a massage (Reiki, Shiatsu, hot stones, foot-reflexology… there’s a whole menu of options), relax in the jacuzzi, and cleanse your skin in the sauna or steam-room.

Activities

If you’re into tennis, Ultima Gstaad will arrange tickets and transport to and from the Swiss Open Gstaad, one of the ATP tennis tournaments. Played on clay courts, you can enjoy plenty of long rallies at this tournament. This tournament is on 17 July – 23 July 2023.

Walking and hiking are favourite activities in Gstaad, so take advantage of the clean Alpine air, 1,050 metres (3,445 feet) above sea-level and free from car-fumes as Gstaad is completely car-free.

Gstaad is also famous for its skiing and is one of the world’s most exclusive ski resorts. Several of my personal training clients in London can vouch for the quality of Gstaad’s ski-slopes.
