5 Parks for Sports & Fitness in Wandsworth, London sw11, sw13, and SW18

London has some great parks to work out in, and Wandsworth is no exception. Here are 5 of the best parks in Wandsworth for sports and fitness:

Tooting Common

This is Wandsworth’s biggest open space.

There’s an athletics track at Tooting Bec with 8 lanes, fully floodlit after dark. It’s used by Herne Hill Harriers athletics club. After your athletics training you can make use of the pavilion with its fully equipped gym, showers, and changing facilities.

If you’re into middle distance running, there are 1km, 3km, and 5km running routes around the common.

Tooting Common is famous for Tooting Bec lido, a vast outdoor swimming pool, popular all year round.

Tooting Common also has horse riding routes.

Battersea Park Millennium Arena & All Weather Sports Ground

Albert Bridge Road, London SW11 4NJ.

This amazing facility has 2 astroturf football pitches, floodlit at night, which are also marked for hockey.

For budding athletes there is a state-of-the-art running track. For more details ring the information centre on 020 8871 7537.

If you’re into tennis there are 19 hard tennis courts and tennis coaches whose details are available on the tennis page of Fitness4London.com. Just click the link to contact them.

Wandsworth Common

Dorlcote Road, Wandsworth, London SW18 3RT

In this 175 acres of open space there are sports pitches and 6 hard tennis courts. For more information on how to book a tennis court ring All Star Tennis  on 020 8871 4706.

King George’s Park

Mapleton Road, Wandsworth, London SW18 3HS

This 55 acre park has a leisure centre, sports pitches, and 10 hard tennis courts.

For more info on the tennis ring All Star Tennis on 020 8875 0570. At the time of writing this blog post they have a great deal for regular tennis players: £46.00 annual membership gives you free bookings at off-peak times (before 5pm), and the ability to book online up to 7 days in advance. However, there are no floodlights, so unless you have luminous balls you’ll find it hard to play after 4pm in the winter.

Barn Elms Sports Centre

Queen Elizabeth Walk, Barnes, London SW13 0DG

This extensive sports centre has 10 tarmac tennis courts (of varying quality), 6 astroturf tennis courts, and you can book over the phone: 020 8876 9873.

In the summer there are cricket pitches and cricket nets, and all year round there are rugby pitches and football pitches.
