Hundreds of thousands of Londoners live in blocks of apartments with no garden of their own, but if you're lucky enough to have your own back garden in London, make good use of it for your fitness.
Your garden is a great place to exercise: you've got complete privacy, and it's literally on your doorstep, so you've not got the hassle of travelling to the gym. You could invite your friends round for a workout, or find a new gym buddy in London by joining Fitness Buddy, Fitness4London.com's free social network which has 14 sports & fitness options. You could even get a personal trainer to come to your garden and give you a professional workout session.
And if you can afford it, why not go one step further and build a garden gym? There's a great company called Garden Spaces UK, which builds garden gyms like the one in the picture above. You'll find more about this company if you scroll down the Interviews page. Just think, no more sharing sweaty equipment with strangers, no more time-consuming trips to the gym, no more dirty changing rooms.
As the experts have been saying for years, gardening is a great way to relieve stress. You connect with nature, get lots of fresh air, and get some great exercise at the same time.
The good news is that there's a growing number of green gym groups popping up around London, run by volunteers, which transform outside spaces in and around London. One of the biggest groups is The Conservation Volunteers Green Gym. They encourage members to keep fit and boost wellbeing while transforming the local environment.
